Hot Springs
Gentle, mildly acidic bathwater
Our hot spring bath is a blend of two different types of hot spring water.
One is the iron-rich, reddish-brown hot spring in Jigokudani (Hell Valley).
The other is rich in minerals, including sulfur —
a free-flowing spring with a source temperature of 98°C.
Blended together, the two waters feel remarkably soft on the skin,
and are mildly acidic — gentle even on sensitive skin.
After your bath your skin feels smooth,
and you may even feel as though
it has been renewed.
The proof: Kao, one of Japan’s leading cosmetics companies,
has chosen our hot spring as one that is gentle on the skin.
The indoor bath uses a combination of circulating and free-flowing water.
The open-air bath uses only free-flowing hot spring water.
Each bath is 100% natural hot spring water, without any added water or heating.
The baths are open all night, so bathe as often as you like —
your skin stays smooth and your body warm long afterwards.
Please come and feel it for yourself.
Men's indoor bath
While the average bath depth is generally 60 cm, our baths are 90 cm deep (both men's and women's). The reason for the extra 30 cm is to allow for standing baths and to stimulate pressure points on the soles of the feet with stones laid on the bottom. Stimulating these pressure points activates the activity of blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatics, thereby enhancing the body's natural healing power.
Men's outdoor bath
The open-air bath offers a sense of freedom, and the high-quality, free-flowing hot spring water envelops you in comfort. The garden visible from the bath is planted with various flowers such as hydrangeas, azaleas, and flowering peach trees, delighting the eyes. Enjoy the different atmospheres throughout the four seasons.
Women's outdoor bath
In the stone wall garden constructed from raw stones from Shiga Kogen, the four seasons
You can enjoy the ever-changing garden scenery.
Shunran (Cymbidium goeringii), the orchid that gives our ryokan its name, is also planted here.
On clear nights, look up at the night sky and enjoy the clear, starry skies of northern Shinshu.
Women's indoor bath
The warm, indirect lighting creates a calming atmosphere, allowing you to relax and forget about time while slowly soaking in the bathtub.
Changing room
Since the lockers are equipped with locks, you can relax and enjoy your time even if you're just visiting for a day trip.
locker
We renovated the changing rooms in 2023 and 2024. The bathrooms now feature partitioned sinks, and the women's bath has been fitted with ReFa hair dryers. Makeup remover, toner, lotion, cotton pads, bath towels, and face towels are all provided, so you can come empty-handed.
Washing area
We reopened our carbonated spring bath in 2023. The carbon dioxide is absorbed through the skin, dilating capillaries and increasing blood flow. Benefits include improved fatigue, relief from stiff shoulders and cold extremities, skin beautifying effects due to its slightly acidic pH, activation of metabolism, and prevention and mitigation of high blood pressure and heart disease by reducing strain on the heart. The water is relatively lukewarm, allowing you to enjoy the temperature difference compared to a regular hot spring.
Carbonated spring
The washing area is partitioned for your peace of mind. We offer Mirable and ReFa showerheads.
At our facility, we take into consideration the needs of our elderly guests and children, providing wheelchair access, handrails, and baby beds and high chairs for young children, so you can enjoy your bath with peace of mind. Please feel free to let us know if you have any requests.
